CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - A path connecting Garden Ridge Road and Douglas G. Grafflin Elementary School has been cleared for safe use by the New Castle Recreation and Parks Department.
The news was delivered by Town Administrator Penny Paderewski nearly three months after residents of Garden Ridge Road attended a New Castle Town Board work session and asked for the path to be maintained by the town.
"The parks department did a phenomenal job," said Paderewski. "I dont know whos had the chance to go look at it or not, but its all been cleared, so its safe for passage."
The path was created in 1976 when there was a re-subdivision of 6 and 10 Garden Ridge Road. The path, which is approximately 10 feet in width and 170 feet in length, was created between the properties to provide a path for pedestrian access between Garden Ridge and Grafflin.
According to one resident, the path used to have rocks and woodchips, but had been neglected in recent years. The path is owned by the town of New Castle.
Along with clearing the path, the town will order a 4x4 wooden post to be placed at the Garden Ridge entrance that will read "Garden Ridge Path." The post will be either white or yellow and will cost $175, plus shipping.
The board will wait until the spring to decide if any additional work on the path is necessary, such as adding wood chips.
