In the wake of today and tomorrows extreme heat, the Chappaqua School District is doing as much as they can to keep their facilities cool and comfortable for their students.
None of the classrooms, gyms or cafeterias in any of their six schools are air-conditioned so to cope, Director of Facilities Joseph Gramando will be bringing in fans to classrooms.
There are some areas in the schools which have AC, like the library in Horace Greeley High School. Seven Bridges Middle School has several air-conditioned areas, like their performing arts center, cafeteria and library.
Were not doing anything to reduce our electric load, Gramando said. Theres not really a lot we can do with two weeks left of school.
The school district recently agreed to an energy performance contract with Johnson Controls which will cut back on their energy and fuel usage, saving the district over $400,000 a year.
It pays for itself over an 18-year period, Gramando said. The savings pays the loan that were taking out.
The project, which begins this July, includes new light fixtures, lighting controls, boilers, clocks, solar panels, windows and doors, even wind turbines at Horace Greeley High School.
