The fire broke out at 143 South William St. in Newburgh just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, according to the City of Newburgh Fire Department.
Arriving crews found a working fire on the first floor and confirmed that everyone inside had made it out of the building. As firefighters worked to contain the flames on the first floor, crews entered the building and rescued a cat from the second floor, according to the department.
A second alarm was called, bringing more departments to the scene. With help from mutual-aid crews, firefighters put out the remaining flames.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Sunday, Sept. 21, and remained under investigation.
