Caitlynn Nicole James, 31, was driving home from work on Saturday, Feb. 15, when a head-on crash on Buckeystown Pike took her life, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash happened around 6:40 p.m. near Adamstown Road when James Henry Walker, 43, of Dickerson, who was driving on a suspended license, veered into oncoming traffic.

Investigators say Walker was speeding and failed to stay in his lane before slamming into James' 2014 Hyundai Sonata.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, while James was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

Investigators noted that Walker’s excessive speed, suspended license, and failure to stay in the correct lane were contributing factors in the deadly crash, which remains under investigation.

Loved ones say James' death was "senseless and preventable."

“She was simply on her way home from work when her life was taken,” her family wrote in a GoFundMe campaign created to help cover funeral and legal expenses.

James worked as a dedicated caregiver with Visiting Angels, helping seniors live independently.

Her family says she was known for her selfless spirit and compassionate heart, always putting others before herself.

"She had a heart full of love, always putting others before herself, and brightened the lives of so many with her selfless spirit," they said. "Losing her so suddenly has left an indescribable void in the hearts of all who knew her."

Her family is also seeking support for legal costs as they pursue justice, citing that Walker had a prior citation for driving under the influence.

“This driver crossed a double yellow line while passing other drivers and hit Caitlynn’s car head-on. This was a senseless and preventable tragedy,” the family wrote.

Anyone interested in donating to the fundraiser can do so here.
