Officers responding to a burglary alarm Sunday, Jan. 18, at a Webster Bank branch on Middle Country Road in Ridge were met with an unexpected intruder: a full-grown buck that had smashed through a window and ended up trapped inside the building, according to Suffolk County Police.
Body camera footage shared by the agency shows an officer crawling through the shattered window before the buck is seen sprinting through the bank lobby as officers try to keep their distance.
The deer frantically attempted to escape on its own, causing extensive damage inside the branch. Officers eventually cornered the animal, secured its antlers, and used a rope to safely lasso the buck.
The deer was then guided back out through the broken window and released without injury, police said.
Officers from the Seventh Precinct credited with the rescue included Connor Kehoe, Jason Famoso, Shane Matedero, Michael Pitts, and Salvatore Zafonte, police said.
"We think the buck was looking for bucks," Suffolk County Police said on Facebook.
As video of the incident spread online, commenters wasted no time having fun with the situation.
“He was denied a loan and got mad,” one person joked.
Others chimed in with quips like, “The buck wanted some bucks,” while another noted “That’s a lot of damage.”
