FAIRFIELD, Conn. Two Fairfield roads will be closed by bridge repair work in the next few months. Work on Merritt Street and Cornell Road is slated to begin in July and September, respectively.
The replacement of the Merritt Street Bridge could begin as early as Sunday, July 1, according to the town engineering department. The town plans to fully replace the span over Horse Tavern Brook and make the turn onto Valley Road easier to navigate. The town expects the work to last until at least July 2013.
The work on Cornell Road is expected to start in September. The towns engineers will replace the deck on that bridge. The town plans to have that construction finished by the end of 2012.
Both roads will be closed to all through traffic during construction, but available for residents of those roads. Detours will be posted once construction begins.
The Town and Contractor will not shut down roads until necessary, but once closed they will remain closed until bridge and road work is completed, the First Selectmans office said in a press release.
