Bricks & Minifigs has opened at 210-B Fort Evans Road in Leesburg, giving Loudoun County its first store dedicated to LEGO sets and collectibles and a new home for everything from forgotten bricks to hard-to-find treasures.
And yes, they'll take some of that old LEGO off your hands.
The locally owned shop buys, sells and trades new and pre-owned sets, minifigures and bulk bricks, allowing customers to bring in collections for an evaluation and written offer before choosing cash or store credit.
Which, naturally, can be used to buy more LEGO.
The inventory goes well beyond what is currently sitting on toy-store shelves.
Bricks & Minifigs specializes in retired and hard-to-find sets, certified-complete pre-owned sets and new-in-box offerings, while thousands of loose minifigures and bulk bricks turn part of the store into something of a treasure hunt.
Customers can dig through the bins looking for just the right piece, hunt down a collectible minifigure or create a character of their own at the Build-A-Minifig station.
And because much of the inventory comes through the door from other LEGO fans, what's waiting on the shelves can keep changing.
“Because we buy and trade with customers, our selection keeps changing,” owner Kirsten Zaremba said. “There’s always a reason to stop back in and see what’s new.”
Zaremba and her family have called Northern Virginia home for nearly 20 years, and the family-owned, owner-operated shop was built with both casual builders and serious collectors in mind.
But there is another idea behind all those bricks.
A break from the screen.
“We all spend plenty of time looking at screens,” Zaremba said. “Building with LEGO offers a chance to unplug, unwind, and give your mind something creative to work on.
“Whether you’re building on your own or around a table with friends and family, we want to make room for that.”
There is room for it, literally.
The store includes a dedicated event space for birthday parties, game nights, homeschool groups, team-building activities and other gatherings, with camps, build events and workshops also planned.
For Zaremba, though, the hope is that Loudoun's new LEGO destination eventually becomes less about who's walking through the door for the first time and more about who keeps coming back.
“What we’re looking forward to most is getting to know our regulars: the kids eager to show us their latest builds, the families who make us part of their weekend, and the collectors who teach us something new,” she said.
Bricks & Minifigs will hold its official grand opening beginning Saturday, Oct. 10.
For now, the first pieces are already in place.
