WILTON, Conn. - Wilton's three-term Republican First Selectman Bill Brennan announced Tuesday that he will run for a fourth term in November.
"With the encouragement of my family and many Wilton residents, I am pleased and very excited to announce my plan to seek a fourth term as first selectman," said Brennan, 76, standing on the steps of town hall surrounded by family, friends and supporters. "These are difficult economic times for our community as well as for many of our citizens. I believe my work is yet undone."
If re-elected, Brennan said his goals include: lowering municipal energy costs for town, school and village center commercial buildings by accelerating utility investments; improving Wilton's "deteriorated roads;" and stemming tax-rate growth by reducing costs and bringing new business to the town.
Because of the new four-year term implemented by a charter commission two years ago, Brennan said, he had to "seriously consider" whether to seek the longer term. First selectman's terms had previously been two years.
