This February vacation week you and the kids can break out of winter's lockup with some "Liberty Days" at Mystic Aquarium. From Feb. 19-27, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., families can dive into a pool of seaport themed crafts, exhibits and special activities including creating silhouettes, clambering aboard the whaler Charles W. Morgan, participating in interactive storytelling and more. The 1841 Charles W. Morgan is the last surviving wooden whaling ship and saw service for 80 years.
Additionally, for this holiday week at the Seaport, receive one free kids admission (6-17 year olds) with this coupon. Those age five and under are free.
New at the Seaport and ready for inspection is the interactive exhibit, "Pastimes and Playthings," which offers kids a look at 19th century diversions and a chance to try their skill with old fashioned parlor games, such as skittles and checkers. There are also puzzles, books and a puppet stage for experimenting with.
The Treworgy Planetarium has its own set of exhibits to inspect and features a free 2 p.m. daily showing of "Winter Stars on a Voyage to Freedom." In its lobby, there is an ongoing celestial navigation display, exploring six stages to demonstrate the steps sailors needed to take to figure out their location in pre-GPS times. The last part of the exhibit, "You Be the Navigator," gives visitors the chance to test their locating skills and make their own calculations.
