The program, which links library book sales with underserved school classrooms, has been active at the Pequot Library for 14 years. The foundation’s program started with a simple idea: provide an abundance of books of all types and subjects to children whose access to books may be limited.
The Renée B. Fisher Foundation is a nonprofit, philanthropic organization located in Greens Farms. Pequot Library’s program was the flagship program, serving Bridgeport and New Haven’s underserved school communities. More than 400 inner city Bridgeport and New Haven classroom teachers have already received $100 in Books for Teachers "Bucks" to spend at Pequot Library’s Summer Book Sale.

Teachers who have benefited from the program in previous years have remarked on the wide variety of material at the sale, including books, media, records and prints, of which can be used in numerous ways to encourage reading, research and discovery.
The Pequot Library’s 56th annual Summer Book Sale will be held Friday, July 22 to Tuesday, July 26.
