Last month, a groundbreaking was held for a mixed-used redevelopment of the former Julia D. Butterfield Hospital in Cold Spring, Daily Voice previously reported.
The project, which is from developer Paul Guillaro, calls for 55 housing units geared towards senior citizens, municipal-use space, a senior center and retail space.
Fox News President Roger Ailes, who resides in Garrison, and his wife, Elizabeth, donated $500,000 for the senior center, Daily Voice previously reported.
On the other side of the county, the proposed Crossroads 312 development in Southeast received rezoning approval earlier this year from the town board. The project, which is from veteran Putnam developer Harold Lepler, includes 143,000 square feet of retail space and a 100-room hotel.
The Crossroads proposal has been contentious, as some residents expressed concerns about traffic, visual impact and relationship to emergency response times. Other residents, however, voiced support for the plan, citing impact to the area's tax base and for job creation.
A lawsuit has been filed by four residents to halt the project and overturn the town's rezoning vote, according to The Putnam Examiner.
The project still requires site-plan approval; the town board voted earlier this year to transfer that authority to itself from the planning board.
Meanwhile, the village of Brewster has a blueprint for future development, as it recently adopted a new Comprehensive Plan. The document, which presents the overarching framework for land use in the village, calls for creating a new park along the Croton River's East Branch area, improving walkability in the downtown center and changing the zoning code to accomodate the plan's findings.
Further out in the future, Brewster could potential undertake an urban-renewal plan. The plan, which already has an accompanying blight study completed, would involved condemning several properties in the village as part of redevelopment meant for revitalizing the village. The Comprehensive Plan calls for the village to pursue outside funding and to work with regional governmental authorities as part of the process.
The village's Comprehensive Plan documents are available here.
