Bedford Neighbors Notes

The Bedford Village Business Association held a special meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 8 to discuss parking issues with Village landlords. However, the only landlords to attend were Lynn Ryan, who represented the Bedford Historical Society, and Barbara Banks Schwam and her brother, Chris Banks, who currently manage the Banks building for their father, Bill Banks

Despite a large BVBA member turnout, and suggestions about reopening Tarleton Road for business parking or creating more spaces on Court Road, no specific decisions were made. If an agreement can be reached between BVBA members and the new landlord of the theater building regarding access to the parking lot behind the theater on Court Road, progress can be made toward solving the parking dilemma in Bedford Village.

Dana Coakley of Houlihan Lawrence announced at the BVBA meeting that her firm is collecting toy donations for the Children’s Center at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. Drop by and make a donation!

Ann Cloonan, executive director of the Bedford Free Library, completed the New York Marathon this past Sunday along with Kathy Patton, a Friend of the Library. The pair ran on behalf of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. “It was a fun day--the crowd cheers you on, and the weather was beautiful,” Ann said. When asked about where she trained, Ann replied, “I ran on Guard Hill and Succabone Roads to escape the traffic.” Ann’s daughter, Paige, who is on the Fox Lane cross-country team, showed her mom some new running trails. Both women finished the race and received Marathon medallions. Congratulation Ann and Kathy!

On Election Day, Lee Breene, president of the Friends of the Bedford Free Library, Robyn McCree and Robin O’Brien set up a paperback book sale in front of the library. It was a bargain--$5 for a bag of books!

Robyn reminded me that her parents—Jackie and Dick Farrell—will be honored this Saturday night for their years of preservation-minded service to the Town of Bedford. The event, organized by the Bedford Historical Society, will take place at the Court House; cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Proceeds will fund development of a Bedford walking tour. To purchase tickets, visit the office, contact the BHS at 234-9751 or visit www.bedfordhistoricalsociety.org.
