Bedford Neighbors Notes

Bedford Corners resident Kathy Boyle is a superb community organizer and networker. In addition to her day job as a financial analyst at Chapin Hill Advisors in Manhattan, she manages to find time to arrange monthly Breakfast Club meetings hosted by a variety of Bedford businesses. Meanwhile, she is also periodically a spokesperson on Bloomberg Radio and other media, often called upon to analyze the latest stock market volatility.

Kathy arranges Breakfast Club meetings partially to promote the business hosting the event, and partially to gather new clients for her own investment services. If you recall the days of Jerry Rubin’s networking parties at Studio 54, Kathy is truly the Jerry Rubin of Bedford. She provides a way for people to gather in person, rather than by email, and promote local businesses. In addition, a local charity is featured at each breakfast, with a spokesperson present and donations made.

After commuting all week, Kathy wakes up at the crack of dawn to prepare for these Friday breakfasts, which begin at 8 a.m., enabling guests to attend and get to work on time. The most recent breakfast was on Friday, Oct. 21, at Sollia Salon in Bedford Hills. Featured dishes were black bean huevos rancheros, frittata roll-ups, German apple pancakes and home fries, along with pumpkin muffins, scones, popovers and applesauce bread.

Sollia Salon’s owner is Nina Bueti, and her staff helped host this event. As guests arrived, each received a coupon for a free blow dry. About 40 people attended, including Peter Michaelis, Republican candidate for Westchester County Legislature and Lila Cummings, president of the Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps (KBHVAC).

Ms. Cummings represented the featured charity at this breakfast, and announced that KBHVAC went out on 900 calls so far in 2011. It is completely run by community volunteers, including attendees Paul Fargis and Helen Peeples. The breakfast crowd was generous, donating $395 for KBHVAC. For more information, or to volunteer your services, contact Lila Cummings at [email protected], or visit www.kbhvac.org.

Going forward, Kathy will collect “Success Stories” from Breakfast Club attendees, and will spread the word in future email bulletins. If you want to be included on her email list for future Breakfast Clubs, her email is [email protected].
