Bedford Neighbors Notes

Drop by Bedford Wine Merchants while strolling through Bedford Village this Saturday. Arthur Wunderlich is having his annual Fall Pre-Sell, offering 40 percent savings on more than 70 hand-picked wines from around the world. The shop will hold wine tastings both this Saturday and next, from noon to 6 p.m. It’s a perfect time to sample new wines before stocking up for the winter season. If you cannot attend the tastings, wines listed in the recent Bedford mailer can still be ordered online by visiting www.bedfordwines.com. Place your orders by Oct. 1.

In mid-October, the Bedford Historical Society’s “Autumn & Antiques” weekend takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16. As a special feature of the Antiques Show, Bedford resident and renowned photographer William Abranowicz will give a lecture titled “A Photographer’s Album – Recollections on Published and Personal Images” on Saturday night at the Bedford Court House. His career has spanned 35 years, with his photographs featured in many major publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, Martha Stewart Living, Town & Country and The New York Times Magazine. Tickets, which include refreshments and admission to the Antiques Show, are $25 for BHS members, $35 for non-members.

The Antiques Show itself will be held at Bedford Historical Hall on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. At least 20 dealers will display their wares, ranging from antique furniture to maps and prints and fine estate jewelry. Show admission is $8 for members, $10 for non-members. For information or to purchase tickets, call the Historical Society at 234-9751 or visit www.bedfordhistoricalsociety.org.

Coincidentally, on Oct. 15 an Antique Quilt Show will occur at the Bedford Presbyterian Church from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. At least 50 antique quilts, owned by church parishioners, will be displayed. Tea and cookies will be served. The event originated with the BPC quilting group, called “The Bedford Quilters,” led by Jeanne Morrison and Marcia Thomas. One quilt is a red and white Friendship Quilt from 1859, given to the minister by the church’s young people as a token of friendship, which is being loaned to the show by the Bedford Historical Society.
