Bedford Candy Bar, located at 627 Old Post Road in Bedford, announced that it will cease operations later this month after five years in business.

Its last day will be Saturday, June 27, the shop said in a social media announcement.

In its closing announcement, the business thanked its loyal customers and reflected on the many children who frequented the store over the years.

"Thank you to all of our amazing young customers, most with crumpled up dollar bills and requests for more sprinkles," the owners wrote.

They also explained their reasoning for the closure: "We never really profited as a business. With the rising rents we were not able to keep up."

Despite this, though, the owners said their business was "an amazing asset to the town and a passion project."

"We wish the next tenant all the love and hope Bedford stays Bedford," they continued.

The news prompted several comments from visitors to the shop.

"I will miss you! Every time there was a parking space in front, I took it as a sign I should stop," wrote one commenter.

Another said, "Ohhhh noooooooo. This has been one of the 'sweetest' things about Bedford...So wholesome and wonderful to have a candy store in our area."

This same commenter also added, "Can you open in Pound Ridge?"
