Beat Those Winter Blues With Colors

Are you sick of looking out at gloomy snowscapes? Do you feel as if this winter will never end? You may be suffering from a little SAD (seasonal affective disorder). Don’t worry. As soon as the sun comes out you’ll be smiling again. But in the meantime, here are some things you can do to cheer yourself – and your family - up.

* Add some bright color to your décor. Warm colors like yellow, red and orange will give you a boost. Perhaps this is a good time to tackle that painting job you’ve been putting off.

* Maybe it's time for a fun little side chair in funky Indian prints.

* Honeysuckle is Pantone’s 2011 color of the Year. It’s a deep, warm, gutsy pink, just the thing to lift the spirits. Look out for pink accessories, such as new pillows for the sofa or a new shower curtain.

* Place a couple of vases of tulips and daffodils in the kitchen and family room. Flowers are nature’s pick-me-up. Make sure you change the water every other day to keep them blooming.

* Do you have enough light in your rooms? Recessed lighting can be a harsh, so make sure you have plenty of table and floor lamps in your living and family rooms.

* Lava lamps, those icons of the 1970s, are a sure way to put a smile on your face. They’ll give your room a warm glow and give you something fun to look at while you wait for the snow to melt.
