Bateman, a Beacon filmmaker and author, who won $28,001 on Wednesday, finished in second place on Thursday night, done in by not knowing a question about Dante's "Inferno."
The Beacon resident got off to a fast start. He knew that the northernmost places in Norway didn't have sunlight for two months, Sears and Caterpillar were headquartered in Illinois and on a Daily Double, he wagered all his money, correctly guessing that Berkshire Hathaway is based in Nebraska.
During his chat with host Alex Trebeck, they discussed his mockumentary, "You, Your Brain and You, which was financed by Bateman winning $100,000 on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire."
"Did people see it?" asked Trebeck
"We're working on that," said Bateman.
Bateman's run of guessing 27 clues he buzzed in on correctly ended when he did not know Jodi Benson was the voice of the title character in "The Little Mermaid." He ended Single Jeopardy down $5,800 to $5,000.
In Double Jeopardy, Bateman started to take control. He knew William McKinley was assassinated in Buffalo, that Nicole Kidman played Virginia Woolf in "The Hours" and that "Age of Aquarius" is from the movie "Hair." Despite missing out on both Daily Doubles, he was leading $19,000 to $14,200.
The Final Jeopardy clue was: during the jurney, Dante encounters Homer, Socrates and Cicero who bide their time in the first circle aka this.
Bateman incorrectly guessed purgatory, while the correct response was limbo. Bateman's incorrect response cost him the game and he was defeated $21,601 to $9,599. Bateman won $30,001 in his two days.
Bateman also wrote "Disalmanac: A Book Of Fact-Like Facts,", and runs the @Disalmanac, a Twitter account that dispenses false facts. He also created the show "Scott Bateman Presents Scott Bateman Presents."
