Basketball Playoff Race Heats Up

Stamford and Trinity Catholic, two high school teams in the hunt for a playoff berth in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference, meet Monday night at Stamford High in a pivotal boys basketball contest.

Tip off is at 7 p.m. at Stamford. The Black Knights (12-6 overall, 11-5 FCIAC) can move one step closer toward securing a berth. Stamford is seventh in the playoff race and can clinch a berth with a win. Trinity (11-7, 10-6) picked up a huge win last week over Ridgefield. The Crusaders are in the eighth slot in the playoff race and face Wilton in their league finale Wednesday.

St. Joseph, Ridgefield, Bassick, Brien McMahon, Westhill and Staples have secured playoff spots. St. Joseph is the No. 1 seed, followed by Ridgefield. Another key game Monday is Westhill’s contest at Bassick, where those teams are locked in a battle for a high playoff seed.

The FCIAC tournament begins Saturday with four quarterfinals scheduled for Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Wednesday is the final day of the regular season.
