Fairfield police responded to a pair of burglaries Wednesday. Though they took place on opposite sides of town, both had one thing in common: The suspects walked right through the back doors.
The first call came from a store on the Post Road about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday. The stores alarm was triggered when someone entered through the back door. But the owner told police not to respond, because she lives just down the street and was on her way. When she arrived, she found $80 had been stolen from the stores register.
The door showed no signs of forced entry. The storeowner suspects a current or former employee entered using a key. Police were investigating the incident.
The second burglary occurred between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in a home on Suburban Avenue. The homeowners left the back door unlocked when they left for work in the morning. By the time they returned, they discovered thieves had taken an HP digital camera, two jewelry boxes filled with items and a Swiss Army pocket watch. Police were investigating the burglary.
