The following letter, submitted by leaders from four arts groups based in Waveny Park, announces their partnership as the New Canaan Community Arts Alliance. Robert Doran of the Town Players of New Canaan, Judy Higby, Pat Stewart and Mark Macrides of NCSA at the Carriage Barn, George McEvoy of Waveny Chamber Music Society, and Rowena Zabrodsky of the New Canaan Sculpture Group invite you to their Arts in the Park event Oct. 2.
This letter is to announce that the New Canaan Community Arts Alliance has just been established. We have the following mission: "to provide its member organizations (Town Players of New Canaan, Waveny Chamber Music Society, the New Canaan Sculpture Group and the New Canaan Society for the Arts at the Carriage Barn) with a way to enlighten local communities about the many performing and applied arts experiences that exist at the Carriage Barn and the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center in Waveny Park."
All four of these member organizations are not-for-profit and each of them produces top quality product whether it be visual, auditory, tangible, or performance based. We are excited to be joined together to help increase awareness and participation.
Saturday, October 2, 2010, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., we will be holding an Arts in the Park event with interactive performances and workshops. There will be en plein aire art demonstrations, gallery walk and talk, sculpture studio tours, classical music mini-concerts and theatric skits. This is an open house, free of charge event for people of all ages. There will be food and drink choices for sale.
Thanks to the kindness of Steve Benko and the Parks and Recreation Department, the road in that lower section of the park will be closed to vehicular traffic. A schedule with the times of various happenings will be forthcoming.
The Fairfield and Westchester County communities are fortunate to have such a large number of cultural venues. Each of our member organizations has a loyal membership and valued supporters and we thank them. Now we would like to share their experiences with others who are not aware of our wonderful events.
