Preparing an art exhibit can almost be as intense as creating the works to be displayed, says Cathy Puccio. On Wednesday, Puccio and the other artists to be featured in a show at Atria Stamford spent the better part of the afternoon determining such things as which pieces to place next to each other, the spacing between them and optimal height.
There are a lot of mechanics to it, said Puccio, bending over to adjust a wire running across the back of a picture frame. None of us are mechanics. So we just do the best we can.
The show opens Thursday, March 10, at the senior residential community. In addition to Puccio, who lives in Trumbull, it will feature works by Pam Ackley and Ann Porco of New Canaan, Terry Hartley of Redding and Karen Martin of Chappaqua, N.Y. Theyre all members of the Beardsley Guild of Artists and share work space in the Beardsley Gallery in Wilton.
Art sometimes is lonely, said Puccio. So its nice to have people to paint with and share materials and share ideas. Its a nice space.
Ackley had previously shown her works in Dariens Atria, and thought Atria Stamford would be a good group-show location. The facility is an assisted living center for senior citizens. The exhibit space is in the its top-floor Skyroom.
This display of paintings is just one way we help local artists to pursue their interests and hobbies as well as have a wonderful space to show their artwork, said Atria Stamford community sales director Loretta Lacci in a statement. These talented individuals have been exercising their creative outlets, and we are honored to provide an opportunity for them to continue expressing their creativity in our Skyroom.
Atria Stamford is located at 77 Third St. An opening reception will be held Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will feature wine, hors doeuvres and live music, and valet parking will be available. It is free and open to the public.
The evening will be an opportunity to see the diversity in what we do and also the similarities, said Ackley.
