ARMONK, N.Y. The warm winter may remind residents that summer is near, which has caused members of the Anita Louise Ehrman Pool to press harder to rectify the situation that threatens the opening of the pool this year.
The pool, which is suffering financial hardships after a $3 million renovation job in 2006, is for sale, with supporters of the pool urging the town to buy it. An online petition was started that advocates the town purchase the pool for $1.7 million, which would be financed with a 15 year bond that would cost taxpayers approximately $35 a year.
A town purchase would require a referendum vote the town is now considering, according to town board member John Cronin, who answered public comments about the pool at last weeks town board meeting with a statement that the town is working on the issue.
Chris Yaroscak, an executive at Legacy Development in Armonk and chairman of the Ehrman pool board, said meetings will take place this week between the pool board, the town board and private individuals who may be interested in purchasing the pool.
Im 98 percent sure the pool will be open this year, Yaroscak said. We know the pool has supporters -- everyone from pool members to community members who know a pool increases the value of real estate to local businesses that benefit when residents stay in town for the summer and use the pool.
