The discussions are in the very early stages, and the project is not currently in active development, The Wall Street Journal says.
Amazon, which owns the rights to the show following its acquisition of MGM, has not yet approached the Trump family about the idea.
Amazon executives have reportedly discussed reviving the show with a host "very close" to President Donald Trump. The WSJ report notes that Donald Trump Jr. has been considered as a potential lead for the boardroom.
An Amazon spokesperson told People that "any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative."
A source close to Donald Trump Jr. told People that he had not heard of the idea before the WSJ report was published.
Originally created and hosted by Donald Trump, "The Apprentice" debuted on NBC in 2004 and ran until 2017. The show featured contestants competing in business-related tasks for the chance to work for Trump. It became a cultural phenomenon, spawning multiple spin-offs, including "The Celebrity Apprentice."
Amazon’s interest in the reboot comes after the company gained access to the show’s catalog through the MGM acquisition. The WSJ report also noted Amazon’s release earlier this year of a documentary on Melania Trump, suggesting an interest in content that appeals to a broad audience, including conservative viewers.
While any potential revival remains speculative, the idea of reviving "The Apprentice" with a member of the Trump family at the helm has already sparked widespread debate online.
