The highly competitive honor recognizes innovative and effective approaches to integrating technology with teaching and learning.

All students in the Putnam Valley school district have access to a laptop. Beginning in seventh grade students are assigned a laptop that they can bring home with them.

Stephanie Carullo, Apple vice president for education, said, “The administration and faculty of Putnam Valley Middle School have shown that they demonstrate the Five Best Practices of an Apple Distinguished Program: visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching, ongoing professional learning, compelling evidence of success and a flexible learning environment.”

Carullo attended the most recent Board of Education meeting and presented an award and a banner to the middle school principal, Edward Hallisey, and the submission team.
