Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Convenience and Smoke Shop, 2050 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, according to the First Squad.
When they arrived, officers observed the front glass broken and located the suspect inside the store, detectives said.
Antonios Kanakis, 35, of North Merrick, was arrested without incident, police reported.
He was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree.
Kanakis is scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday, Feb. 22 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
