DANBURY, Conn. Anna Ganczarski Anllo, a former Danbury resident, died Aug. 18. She was 104.
Born March 21, 1908, Anllo was the fourth of nine children born to Polish immigrants George and Anna Ganczarski. She was raised in Mayfield, Pa., a place that remained a source of storytelling, joy and comfort to her.
Her Polish-American upbringing permeated her cooking and her holiday traditions, which her family continues to honor and embrace, while still attempting to replicate her one-of-a-kind rice pudding.
In her 20s, Anllo moved to New York City, where she held several jobs. At Eagle Pencil Co., her supervisor was Manuel Anllo. The two married on Dec. 26, 1934, in Manhattan, where they raised three children.
They moved to Danbury in 1969, where their home was known for its beautiful flower garden. For the last four years, Anllo made her home at The Village of Brookfield.
She is survived by three children, Manny (Marion) Anllo, of Hamilton Square, N.J., Barbara (Bill) Hackett, of Chatham, N.J., and Marilyn (Joe) Perry, of Bethel; and 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury, where she worshipped for more than 40 years. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury. There will be no calling hours. Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.
