Ambulance Corps Gives Scholarships

Paying for college just became slightly easier for Lawrence O'Halloran, Kerri Rees and Jessica Co-Reyes. The three were the 2010 recipients of the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps scholarships.

Each received scholarships for being members of WVAC and for pursuing careers in fields related to medicine. According to a WVAC press release O'Halloran is enrolled in a post-baccalaureate pre-med program at Manhattanville College, Rees is beginning the nursing program at St. Vincent's College in the fall, and Co-Reyes will attend Washington University in St. Louis, where she will major in biomedical engineering.

WVAC executive director Susan Kellogg said the scholarships have been given out annually since 1986. The amount changes every year depending on the number of qualified candidates and are funded by memorial donations given to WVAC.

The WVAC has about 50 members who donated 18,000 hours last year.
