Whether you love music, or were just looking for a place to relax, have a picnic and spend time with family, the Easton Jazz Festival was the place to be in town on Saturday. The concert, which took place at the Easton Community Center, featured over 70 musicians.
The crowds were entertained by musicians like Carl DeVellis, Joe Carter, Jonathan DuBose Jr., Dr. Joe Utterback and the Jazz Guild of Fairfield County throughout the day.
I liked the idea of this festival, said Eastonite Meghan Johnson. She said a perk of the festival was that it was free to attend, unlike many others in nearby towns where it can cost up to 75 dollars to attend. The performers here are better and theyre more local.
Its really nice to have a music venue where people come together to chat and listen to good music, said Phyllis Machledt, who volunteered at the festival, selling t-shirts. Machledt said the concert is of great benefit to the community and is a great kickoff for the rest of the concerts this summer. There will be six concerts throughout the summer featuring other local bands.
The jazz festival was put together largely by Gene Leone Sr. and his son, Gene Leone Jr. Leone organized many of the bands that performed and built the stages. Jazz fest committee member Gina Orticelli said that the ECC staff was crucial in making the event happen and that Leone was a driving force for the event. We as a committee want to give a big thank you to Gene were very grateful. Orticelli said Leone is very passionate about music and the musicians.
Two Boots from Bridgeport, Huntington Street Café, Jules Mediterranean, Halis Cakes of Fairfield, Massage Works, Tastefull Simple, Rolling Cones Ice Cream, Mike Valentine Caricatures, and the Old Fashioned Saloon and Old Fashion Kettle Popcorn also catered to the crowds throughout the day into the evening.
