NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. NJCAA Region 15 named all five starters on Monroes mens basketball team as all-stars.
The backcourt of Drimir Ferguson and Davon Marshall made the regions first team, while Orlando Sanchez and Maurice Ndour made the second team. Marco Bourgalt earned honorable mention.
Ferguson, the starting point guard, has averaged 12.2 points per game and 6.3 assists per game this season. He was a second-team all-star last year.
Marshall led the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game and is 12th in NJCAA Division I three-point shooting at 46 percent.
Sanchez, a sophomore who earned All-American and regional first-team all-star honors in his freshman season, has been scouted by NCAA Division I schools. Ndour has shown promise at center as a freshman, and sophomore Bourgalt will have three years of NCAA eligibility when he graduates from Monroe in June because he red-shirted last year.
"We think of each of our players as all-stars and I'm happy for them to be recognized. They richly deserve it," said Coach Jeff Brustad. "But more than any other team I've coached, this is a cohesive group that plans to succeed as a team and with the playoffs coming, we're going in with a team-first mentality."
The Mustangs (27-3) will begin postseason play as the No. 1 seed in the NJCAA Region 15 semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. They will host the winner of the Westchester-Globe match-up Wednesday.
If Monroe wins Saturday, it will play in the region finals at 7 p.m. Sunday. Monroe is hosting the Region 15 Tournament at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
