The fire broke out around 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, inside an apartment at 170 1st Street, according to Troy Police. Firefighters located the blaze in a common-area hallway and quickly extinguished it.

Investigators determined the fire was suspicious, and detectives were called to assist with the investigation, police said. They concluded the fire had been intentionally ignited and gathered a suspect description with help from people connected to the residence.

With assistance from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Capital Region Crime Analysis Center and the Albany Police Department, detectives identified the suspect as Derrick Moore, of Albany.

Investigators learned that Moore was involved in a dispute with another individual associated with the home, which led him to intentionally set the fire, police said.

Moore was arrested on suspicion of second-degree arson and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in Troy City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County jail.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Troy Police detectives at 518-270-4777 or submit a tip online at troypd.org.
