Ajany Waite, 33, was found guilty on Wednesday, June 17, following a jury trial in Westchester County Court, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday, June 24.

According to prosecutors, the attack happened on June 6, 2025, after Waite saw his former girlfriend at a party in the Bronx. Authorities said he later went to her Mount Vernon home and began banging on the front door.

After getting inside the building, Waite kicked open the victim's apartment door and launched what prosecutors described as a "vicious attack."

The woman fled into her roommate's bedroom and tried to hold the door shut. However, prosecutors said Waite forced the door open enough to slash her across the right side of her face with a large kitchen knife. When she turned away, he stabbed her in the left shoulder.

The assault was stopped when the victim's son grabbed a hammer and intervened, forcing Waite to flee the apartment, prosecutors said.

The victim suffered devastating injuries, including a broken cheekbone, a torn ligament in her neck, a deep facial wound that required around 25 stitches, and a shoulder wound that required six stitches.

Jurors convicted Waite of two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree burglary, three counts of second-degree assault, and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22 and faces up to 25 years in state prison on the most serious charges.
