To close out what has already been a fantastic year for the drama department, New Canaan High School actors are taking a trip to Urinetown. Dylan Hsu, Ali Rusch, Ryan Timberlake and Catherine Chiocci star in the Tony Award-winning musical written by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann. The show opens Thursday night, June 3, and continues Friday and Saturday.
Urinetown is set in a dystopian future, when a water shortage forces all citizens to use public toilets run by Urine Good Co., owned by the corrupt Caldwell B. Caldwell (Hsu). Urinal manager Penelope Pennywise (Rusch) oversees one of these establishments in the poorer section of town, where she reminds her customers of The Privilege to Pee. There, a young revolutionary named Bobby Strong (Timberlake) leads a revolt against UGC, but runs into complications when he falls in love with Caldwells daughter, Hope (Chiocci).
The production also features Nick Larson as Officer Lockstock, the storys narrator, and Chip Granata as his partner Officer Barrel. Keri DeTullio, Katie Oxman and Jalani Alladin also have big parts, as Little Sally, Becky Two-Shoes, and Hot Blades Harry, respectively, cohorts of Bobby Strong.
Tickets are still available in the NCHS lobby, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from June 1 to 4. You can also purchase tickets starting one hour before show times. All performances will be at the New Canaan High School Auditorium, starting at 7:30 p.m. on June 3, 4 and 5.
