Wilmington police said only that the suspect was taken into custody in Philadelphia. Charges are pending, and extradition proceedings to Delaware are underway, authorities said. The gunman was possibly a hospital worker who shot two other employees, ABC News reports, citing law enforcement sources.
Police responded to the hospital in the 500 block of West 14th Street on Tuesday, June 16, after reports of a shooting inside the facility. Two gunshot victims were found, according to police. One of the victims later died from their injuries, authorities said.
Police have not released the identities of either victim and are withholding information about the surviving victim's condition while family notifications are made.
The shooting prompted a lockdown at the hospital as officers searched for the suspect and secured the scene. The lockdown was later lifted, and police began clearing from the area, authorities said.
Police said their preliminary investigation determined the shooting was a targeted and isolated incident. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
