The Stamford man charged with choking and beating his 13-year-old daughter was arrested just last year for disorderly conduct and risk of injury to others, according to Stamford police Sgt. Joseph M. Kennedy.
Kennedy said that Carlos Chaparro, 38, also has been arrested for various motor vehicle offenses and for postal robbery in New York State. The postal incident came 18 years ago.
Chaparro and his wife, Yellka, 28, were arrested Thursday. Police said the couples 17-year-old son took his sister out of the house when Chaparro was asleep and contacted authorities. Chaparro was charged with second-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and second-degree strangulation. The wife was charged with risk of injury to a minor.
Sgt. Kennedy said the State Department of Children and Families took Chaparros 1-month-old, 3-year old, 7-year-old and 13-year-old into custody. The 17-year-old son is staying with a family friend and coach.
Both Chaparros were arraigned in State Superior Court Friday.[
