The Peekskill Museum is brewing a special fundraiser this weekend with the help of a popular city establishment. The museum is hosting its First Annual Garden Tea Party on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the museums backyard garden.
Museum Board Membership Secretary Margaret Bryan said fundraisers like Sundays tea are crucial to the museums survival. Were non-profit and we dont receive any government funding, so we rely on fundraisers and contributions from our membership dues, Bryan said.
The museum, located at 124 Union Avenue, houses hundreds of items from the citys history, from Civil War weapons to campaign items from George Patakis three gubernatorial campaigns. It is open on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum also hosts a number of historic lectures throughout the year. The party is being catered by Kathleens Tea Room, an English-style tea room located on Main Street. The tea room serves 52 brewed teas at tableside, as well as crumpets, soups, salads, and more in a laid-back atmosphere, according to owner Cyndi McKenzie.
We do a lot of private parties on the weekends, lots of baby showers, birthdays and things like that, McKenzie said. McKenzie said attendees with have the full Victorian tea experience. Its a high tea, so there will be a variety of teas and tea sandwiches with fresh crudités, scones with butter and jam, and several different petite desserts with fresh fruit, McKenzie said.
The event will also feature a musical performance by The Westchester-Putnam Youth Symphony. Tickets to the event are $25. To reserve a seat contact Bryan at (914) 737- 1187 or [email protected].
