Trek Bicycle Corporation issued the recall for about 68,000 bikes with coaster brakes, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday, Nov. 13. About 6,820 bikes were also sold in Canada.

The coaster brakes can "fail to engage," potentially causing the rider to lose control of the bike. Trek hasn't received any injury reports, according to the CPSC.

The recalled models include Trek Precaliber bikes in sizes 12, 16, and 20, along with the Electra Townie Rental 1 Step Thru and Electra Sprocket 1 16. Trek is also recalling replacement rear wheels with coaster brakes sold for the same models.

The bikes were sold at authorized Trek and Electra retailers nationwide and online from August 2023 through September 2025, priced between $300 and $660. Replacement wheels sold for $66 to $77.

The bikes come in a range of colors, including red, flamingo pink, volt yellow, Miami green, blue, and more. They were manufactured in China and imported by Trek, which is based in Wisconsin.

Trek is urging customers to stop using the bikes immediately and schedule a free repair with any authorized Trek or Electra dealer. Owners can check if their bike is included by entering the serial number into Trek's online recall tool.

You can learn more about the recall on Trek's website or by calling 800-373-4594.
