At 10:50 a.m., police responded Newark Beth Israel Medical Center on a call of a 7-year-old boy arriving there with his parent for treatment of a self-inflicted gunshot injury to the hand, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
The incident occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Clinton Place, where the child located a family member’s firearm, Miranda said.
The incident remains under investigation, Miranda said.
