Three teams from the Beachside Soccer Club won State Cups Sunday at Newington High School. Teams from the club won the boys under-12, boys under-15 and boys under-18 championships. The boys under-14 team lost in the final.
Norwalks Kevin Joslyn scored the games only goal for the boys 15 squad in a 1-0 victory over FSA United Navy. Joslyn scored in the games eighth minute and goalie Dan Bond, of Trumbull, played well behind a strong defense as Beachside won its third straight State Cup.
Its a major accomplishment for our boys, coach Pete Doneit said. The manner in which they did it was great. They made it look simple.
Doneit said the team made small adjustments to help slow down FSA United Navy, which defeated Beachside during the regular season. We tweaked some little things, Pete said. The important thing is we didnt lose focus and concentration.
The Beachside Blue 12-and-under team defeated FSA United, 2-1, while the Beachside under-18 squad edged Newtown Samba, 2-1. In the 14-and-under game, Newtown Samba outkicked Beachside, 3-1.
The three Beachside teams will advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 National Championships beginning July 1 in West Virginia. Beachsides teams include players from many area towns.
