Both the Putnam County Courier and the Putnam County News & Recorder ended their operations earlier in April, Southeast Town Historian John Alcott confirmed.

Both publications had been owned by Putnam Media Group.

The newspapers were both legacy publications, with the Courier dating back to 1841, when it was called the Putnam Democrat, while the Recorder started about two decades later in 1866, then called the Cold Spring Recorder.

Customers of both publications received emails that they may "resume at a later date," LoHud reported.

Before Putnam Media Group owned the Courier and Recorder, they had once been owned by former Fox Fox News CEO Roger Ailes and his wife, Elizabeth, according to the outlet.

They were sold to editor Douglas Cunningham of Putnam Media Group in 2016.

Both publications had operated out of Cold Spring.
