Khalil Gray, 23, has been charged with forcible sodomy, abduction with intent to defile, malicious wounding, and robbery, in connection with the 8:30 p.m. incident in Crystal City on Saturday, July 22, police said.
Officers were called to the 1900 block of South Bell Street on reports of a woman who was attacked by Gray while walking in the Crystal City Shops, Arlington police said.
Armed with a box cutter, Gray demanded cash and stole the woman's cellphone, then took her to a secluded area, sexually assaulted her, and struck her with the weapon, which resulted in a cut, police said.
The victim was able to escape the area and sought assistance from passersby in the 1900 block of Richmond Highway who were able to call the police. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation of minor injuries.
With investigative assistance from the Metro Transit Police Department, he was taken into custody in Maryland on the evening of July 23.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Det. Maldonado at the department by calling (703) 228-4194 or emailing mmmaldonado@arlingtonva.us.
