Elijah Kamara, 24, of no fixed address, is behind bars and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2024 death of 43-year-old Morris Haskins Jr., according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

On Nov. 8, 2024, officers responded to a park in the 7700 block of Walker Mill Road in Capitol Heights around 5:50 p.m. for reports of gunfire.

They found Haskins suffering from a gunshot wound. He died the following day.

Detectives believe Kamara shot Haskins during an argument, investigators say. The two men were known to each other, they noted.

A warrant was obtained for Kamara’s arrest on Feb. 3, but it wasn’t until Monday, April 14 that he was finally captured — thanks to a tip to Crime Solvers.

Police said an officer with the Westphalia Division conducted a traffic stop at Walters Lane and Chavez Lane, and Kamara, riding as a passenger, jumped out and tried to run.

He didn’t get far.

Kamara was taken into custody without incident and is being held by the Department of Corrections.

Police continue to investigate the case.

Following his death, Haskins' family described his passing as "an immense loss, as Ju touched the lives of everyone he encountered."

"He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend," they said. "His big heart and generous spirit made a lasting impact on so many of us."
