6 Inches Of Snow, Coating Of Ice Could Hammer Virginia, Forecasters Say
Portions of DC, Maryland, central and northern Virginia can expect tricky conditions on the road with snow, sleet, and freezing rain on the way, forecasters are cautioning.
As much as six inches of snow is possible in some parts of the region, according to AccuWeather researchers, resulting in hazardous conditions that could impact residents on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin has issued a state of emergency ahead of a powerful winter storm expected to blanket Virginia starting Sunday, Jan. 7, with snow, freezing rain, and dangerously low temperatures.
“I am declaring a state of emergency for the incoming winter storm currently forecasted to impact Virginia starting Sunday,” Youngkin said in a statement. “I encourage all Virginians, visitors, and travelers to stay alert, monitor the weather forecast, and prepare now for any potential impacts.”

Snow Day! Weather Closes Schools Across Virginia
Schools across Northern Virginia are closed Tuesday, Jan. 16 due to the snow.
Snow began falling across the region Monday, Jan. 15, and is expected to turn to a wintry mix overnight.
All Fairfax, Stafford, Loudoun, Prince William, Alexandria, and Arlington public schools will be closed on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service shows Northern Virginia is expected to see 1 to 3 inches by the end of the night Monday, Jan. 15.
Rain, snow, and freezing rain will fall likely before noon, with another chance of snow later in the day, making for hazardous road conditions.

If everything lines up just right this weekend, parts of the Northeast could get up to two inches of snow, the National Weather Service says.
