Jajayevoune Jerome Lee also known as Jajyevoune Lee-Jenkins was fleeing from an armed robbery in Springettsbury Township around 7:15 on Monday, June 5, 2023, PSP explained.

The troopers were given a description of Lee, the vehicle he escaped in, and were told a woman was driving— which helped troopers spot him on I-83S near Exit 10 and initiate a traffic stop at Exit 9.

"After the vehicle stopped on the shoulder, a black male exited the passenger door and fled south into a wooded area while carrying a fanny pack. A 29-year-old female was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody," the police stated in the release.

That's when Lee was identified and a search for him in a wooded area near the highway was launched, according to the police.

A person matching Lee’s description was spotted walking along Commerce Drive in Springfield Township heading back towards the highway around 2:10 p.m. When Lee realized he was being pursued he attempted a carjacking on I-83— shooting a 53-year-old Shrewsbury woman in the chest, according to the release.

“After running for a short distance, Lee was taken into custody by Troopers. Once Lee was in custody Troopers rendered first aid to the operator of the vehicle, who was alert and conscious. She was then transported to York Hospital by EMS,” state police said adding, "After Lee was taken into custody, he was found with marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and other illegal substances along with the involved firearm."

Lee has been charged with:

  • Attempted homicide.
  • Aggravated assault.
  • Robbery of a motor vehicle.
  • Persons not to possess a firearm.
  • Evading arrest on foot.
  • Possession with intent to deliver.
  • Flight to avoid apprehension, and recklessly.
  • Endangering another person.

He was also wanted on multiple felony warrants for violent crimes in Baltimore, according to PSP. Daily Voice searched court records in Maryland and only found a charge for "malicious destruction of property having a value under $1,000" filed against him on May 11, 2023— which has a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail or a fine of up to $500, or both.

Lee made headlines in 2021 when he was incarcerated in Baltimore and launched  “No Struggle No Success," a non-profit aimed at helping inmates re-enter society by assisting them in finding jobs and housing.

The program helped over 70 people and was working with six Baltimore City schools to provide "mentoring and educational services," as of May 2021, Fox45 Baltimore reported.

His family also launched a Change.org petition to help him get his case back in front of a judge.

He was released from prison on April 19, 2022, and registered as a Tier 1 sex offender in the 4th degree— according to MD law this means he was 21 years old when he had sex with someone 14 or 15 years old, as shown on the MD DPSCS website.

His trial date for the Maryland case is June 11.
