Human Remains Found In Steelton ID'd As Missing Dad

A week after human remains were found in central Pennsylvania, they have been identified as a man who had been missing for nearly a year, authorities say.

Goldie Smith, 38, of the 300 block of Swatara Street, Steelton, had been missing since 7 a.m. Monday, September 6, 2021, according to Steelton Borough Police.

Smith had last been seen in the 500 block of North 2nd Street when police issued his missing persons alert on Friday, September 10, 2021.

His decomposed body was found "in a wooded area behind 814 North Front Street in Steelton," at 2:58 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, according to Dauphin County spokesperson Brett Hambright.

Mayor Ciera Dent released a statement on the discovery the same day. 

The state reads in part

"Today human remains were found in the borough and we are working with the county and other agencies to hopefully bring closure to a family."

He is survived by his family including his three children, according to social media.

His community has already been sharing about it's loss.

His cause and manner of death have yet to be released.

Funeral and memorial service details have not been made public.

Police continue to investigate his death.
