The officer — a member of the Freemansburg Police Department — lost his family home following a fire in Plainfield Township around 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 12, the local volunteer fire company said.
While the family and their pets were able to escape safely, the home was severely damaged and is uninhabitable, the department said.
Meanwhile, nearly $1,400 had been raised on GoFundMe in just one day for the officer and his family.
“The Freemansburg Police Department is asking for donations to help a fellow officer and his family recover after a tragic incident,” reads the fundraiser, launched by Jonathan Itterly.
“Donations will assist the family with rebuilding and replacing essential items; any support is greatly appreciated!”
Several agencies assisted at the scene of the blaze or provided mutual aid, including the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company, the Forks Township Fire Department, the Palmer Municipal Fire Department, the Upper Nazareth Fire Department, Columbia Fire Company No. 1, Lower Mt Bethel Sandt's Eddy Fire Company, Wind Gap Fire Co., Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder Fire Co., Mount Bethel Vol. Fire Company Sta. 37, Slate Belt Regional Police Department, and Northampton County Emergency Management Services.
