A diversity committee was formed at the Central York School District to overhaul the school's representation of diverse voices and highlight topics that were more culturally relevant in 2020. Instead the list was turned into a banned media list as anti-critical race theory sentiments rose.

The change happened at a school board meeting in Nov. of 2020.

That night the school board of the Central York School District voted in support of a "resource ban" of the diversity resource list-- the vote was unanimous.

All of the materials on the list were simply resources and were not required to be taught as part of the curriculum.

The list includes books, documentaries and articles from educational magazines and websites. One of the banned writers has posted the list in its entirety, courtesy of the York NAACP, on their medium page, you can view the list here.

The list of banned media was distributed at the middle and high schools on the first day of the 2021-22 school year.

Since then, a protest group of parents, teachers and students has formed.

Every morning before school the Panther Anti-Racist Union forms a picket line outside the high school.

The protest will continue until the next school board meeting on Monday, Sept. 13, when the union hopes the board will reconsider their decision.
