PA Kidnapper Arrested Police Say

Five days after the Amber Alert for a kidnapped toddler was called off— after the girl was found safe— the woman who abducted her has been captured, police say.

Maria McKenzie, 27, of Springettsbury Township, allegedly kidnapped Mya Campbell, 2, of York County, when she stole a car near Royal Farms along Mount Zion Road around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, according to police.

Campbell was found around 7 p.m. that same day in the Philadelphia area, police said at the time.

McKenzie was found in the Philadelphia area around 5 p.m. Friday, June 5, Springettsbury Township police say.

McKenzie was apprehended by the Philadelphia police department and she remains "incarcerated in Philadelphia until arrangements can be made to have her extradited to York County," as stated in a release by the police.

She has been charged with five felonies for Kidnapping of Minor, Unlawful Restraint of Minor, False Imprisonment of Minor, Interference With Custody Of Children, Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, according to her court docket.

Her preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled at the time of publication.
