6 People Hurt After SEPTA Trolley Crashes Into Freight Train In Delaware County

Multiple people were hurt after a SEPTA trolley crashed into a freight train Thursday morning in Delaware County, authorities said.

Authorities were called to the scene at South 6th Street and Main Street in Darby around 8:30 a.m., where they discovered six people who had been injured, one of whom was the trolley operator, a SEPTA spokesperson told Daily Voice.

SEPTA released the following statement to Daily Voice at 11:30 a.m.: "At approximately 8:30 a.m. today, a Route 11 SEPTA Trolley collided with a CSX train at 6th and Main Streets in Darby. At this time, there are six reported injuries: the trolley operator and five passengers. All have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The cause of the incident is under investigation."

The Route 11 SEPTA trolley was carrying 20 passengers, multiple reports say.

Delaware County Emergency Services called the incident a "mass casualty" collision on Facebook.

The crash remains under investigation.
