Columbia Borough police were dispatched to a report of an attempted vehicle theft in the 400 block of Cherry Street at approximately 11:30 a.m. on May 6, according to a release by the department.

An unknown gloved-man jumped into an unlocked running car, placed his phone in the console, and closed the door behind him, the release details.

When the owner of the vehicle attempted to open the door of the vehicle to make him get out, he held the door shut, the release shows.  "A resident of that block held Miller until police arrived," as stated in the release.

Aryton Nicolas Miller, 26, of Columbia, was later identified as the man that jumped in the car, police say.

Miller has been charged with two counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, according to the police.
