13-Year-Old On Scooter ID'd After Fatal Strike On Carlisle Pike, Coroner Says

A 13-year-old boy was struck dead while riding a scooter across Carlisle Pike on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, according to a release by the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office the following day.

Jaron J. Li of Mechanicsburg was struck dead in the vicinity of Silver Spring and Lambs Gap roads in Hampden Township around 8 p.m., as detailed in the release.  

Jaron was with three of his friends at the time and "They were all trying to cross from the North side to the South side of Carlisle Pike when Li was struck by a vehicle travelling East on Carlisle Pike," Coroner Charles Hall stated.  

He was dressed in dark clothing at the time of the accident, Hall noted. 

Jaron was taken to Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead due to multiple traumatic injuries and his cause of death has been ruled accidental, according to the coroner's office.

Jaron was a student at Mountain View Middle School in the Cumberland Valley School District. School officials have sent Daily Voice a statement about this tragic incident, reading in part:

"Our heartfelt condolences are with the student’s family and friends during this very difficult time.We shared this information with our Mountain View staff and students this morning, and ensured our school community that supports are in place and available."

The accident remains under investigation by the Hampden Township Police Department.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help the Li Family cover the funeral expenses. The campaign has received $7,500 of a $20,000 goal from 140 donations it the first three hours, with the top donation of $250 coming from Rylee Hecht. 

Li is described as "a very special amazing young boy," by the organizer Andrea Oteri.
